Hexagonal basalt "crystals", formed by volcanic activity
aroung 55 million years ago,
form a tightly-packed honeycomb pattern of columns, each a foot
or two across and
some as tall as 40 feet. Legend has it that a giant named Finn
MacCoul built it to
walk across to Scotland.
