A few sketches I made to offer ideas or fodder for opinions/discussion
regarding the LetterboxingUSA logo.

1. The full name, a similar feel to Mitch's original logo. I've incorporated
a map symbol as the "A" in USA.

2. An abbreviated acronym logo carrying the map symbol. To me, this
logo looks a little too corporate.

3. Another version of #2.

4. Typographical solution using a more casual font and a more subtle
version of the map symbol in the "A".

5. Acronym logo of #4, the last two I have incorporated another symbol
that represents a classic postage cancel stamp.

After receiving feedback on the list, I've revised and created a few
more rough ideas to chew on:

6. An almost literal interpretation of a postage cancellation. My opinion
is it's straying too far from the hobby and looking like a postal logo.

7. Same with this one. It also reminds me of Jacque Cousteau's Calypso logo.

8a. Well, no water here. This color scheme looks like an American flag...
something unintentional, I assure you.

8b. Does the green help it look less like water?

9. An idea thrown in for consideration if a name change is on the horizon.

10. & 11. More wavy lines. They look disconnected somehow. Comments?

12. - 14. More slants on the wavy line idea, this time incorporating a separator
between the L and the USA.

ROUND THREE

16. This one is going to have some serious problems when/if reduced
in size. It's not my favorite, if I'm allowed to vote. : )

17. I think this one is starting to have too much going on as well. Though
there is a connection to postal marks and letterboxing, it's my opinion that
it should not be the foremost apparent element of the logo, since very
few letterboxes currently have anything to do with the post office or
mailboxes.

18.& 18a. These are the "long" versions that could possibly be paired with the
short "LUSA" logo, if we were to choose two.

19. Slightly more space between the L and the USA. In color, we could define
them more by making them different colors.

20. Same thing here, more space between the L and USA.

21. The color scheme of 8a, with the "A" from 5b. This is probably one of my
favorites, but the symbolism is pretty subtle. It has a bit of a nautical feel,
though... but I don't completely object to the idea of using the wavy lines
to subtly symbolize water or waves - i.e. letterboxing's crossing of
the ocean from Dartmoor (as well as a postal cancellation or the flag).

22. Simulated cut stamp version.

I am welcoming feedback (public or private) on these ideas. Since
the group belongs to it's members, I encourage everyone to take
part in adding their opinions, including going back to the drawing board. : )

Feel free to post your comments "brainstorm" fashion on the mail list,
or email me.

Thanks for taking a look!
