About the Portraits

I get a lot of enchanted mail from exiles regarding the portraits of Lok'Groton exiles. Many people want to know more about how they are created and how the subjects of the portraits are chosen.

I grind and mix all my own pigments and paints from natural resources found on the islands. Some colors are very rare, and it may take many months to find enough metallic oxides to create crucial colors such as blue and red. That is one reason why a single portrait can take months to finish.

I also make my own brushes from the finest death vermine hair and bristles from wendecka backs, but I seem to be getting a steady supply of those lately.

The subjects in my portraits are often friends, hunting companions, or well-known exiles. I have been known to take commissions, but there is a very long waiting list. Additionally, due to supply limitations and dedication to my chosen profession as a healer, I cannot be hurried into completing any portrait once started.

I strive to capture the essence of my subjects accurately, and many days or weeks of studying and sketching often precede each portrait. Once started, each individual portrait can take well over 15 additional hours to complete over a period of many days.

I welcome all comments, compliments, suggestions, and critiques of my work. I always like to hear from exiles who have seen my work and want to comment on it or ask questions such as how they were created. Many people ask if I will paint their portrait, which I consider a great compliment. Unfortunately, I have to turn down the vast majority of those requests indefinitely, which can be awkward.

The amount of time and effort that goes into each portrait limits the subjects that can be chosen, making it impossible to do a portrait of everyone who asks.

If you are well-known throughout the lands for heroism, scholarly achievements, or great compassion, etc., there's a good chance you're already somewhere on my waiting list for an eventual portrait. If you are my valued and long-time friend, or one of my favorite hunt and rescue partners, you are likely to eventually be chosen. If you are notorious, you have caught my attention, and may someday be painted.

There are a great many exiles who have impressed me with their personalities, skills, friendship, and commitment since my arrival on the islands before the ripture wars, and they are the first in line on my waiting list of portraits.

I've also been known take commissions, schedule permitting. Depending on the compensation offered and my personal feelings about the subject, it is possible to move one's name up on the waiting list. However, due to limitations explained earlier, I cannot make any guarantees. If you want to discuss this with me further, don't hesitate to contact me.
